The Navispect Story

In 2021, Sam was working in a startup, and on one of the daily team calls, another teammate began expounding on his belief that AI bots would eventually take over the earth and destroy humanity from the planet. Sam couldn't tell if he was joking or serious, but at the time it didn't seem to matter as AI was nothing more than an expensive data crunching process available to only the most well-funded of organizations.

Then in 2022, a company called OpenAI released ChatGPT and AI became a part of all of our lives. It felt that most people Sam knew divided into one of two camps:

  1. Fully embracing AI for EVERY task, even when it was counterproductive.
  2. Hesitation around how to effectively use AI, which led to limited use within their company.

Sam began having lots of conversations with the second type of company owner, because he felt they instinctively sensed something he couldn't express.

Finally one day it came to him. Most people he talked to felt that AI was designed to run entire pieces of their business, much as a contractor might be hired to handle fulfillment in an e-commerce company or an overseas supplier might take over the manufacturing of a certain product. The key insight was to realize that people are designed to be in control of AI and that once we stop "giving the business to AI" and start "giving AI to the business" we can immediately find a plethora of immediate implementations available to almost any business.

The other problem companies were facing was that many of their employees either felt overwhelmed by AI or else threatened by it. Sam began to search for a way to simplify all of AI into a 60-minute presentation that could remove those fears and open up a team's latent creativity to find huge ROI wins with AI in their existing processes.

One day while preparing for such a talk, Sam suddenly realized that while most of us think of AI, we think about massive sets of data and complex math equations. But for most SMEs there are only 3 main types of AI readily available within their budget. Once a team understands the tools at hand, they can immediately begin to think of creative ways to use AI in their context. You can check out a version of the talk here.

Once people working with the existing business processes begin to understand what types of AI they can use, the ideas begin flooding in.
